The by-elections are tomorrow. The stakes are high. Some call the one in Bukit Gantang the mini general election because of its importance. I too see it as a referendum to determine who the people see as the deserving government of Perak. Also it's important to gauge the support of Najib.
Yes, Bukita Gantang cannot possibly represent the whole country, but, the make up of the people in Bukit Gantang is pretty much the make up of the population in Malaysia. Also, the constitutional issue and everything else connected to it pretty much strikes the chord of everyone in Malaysia, more so in Perak. So yeah, let them be the judge of the rights and the wrongs.
What bothers me the most though is people saying that the Pakatan people are not respecting the Malay rulers and Islam itself. Even PAS has been claimed to not protect Islam at this point in time in order to gain support of the non-Muslims. What the freak? If they want power, they would've joined forces with UMNO. Also, they've been championing the same cause for Allah knows how long without a shift in their gear, how can anyone claim otherwise?
The issue of Nga Kor Ming reciting the a Quranic verse is one issue that shouldn't be blown out of proportion. That Malay organization making reports and what not. Nik Aziz have said that it is up to him (dia punya pasal) and I kind of agree. Non-Muslims can refer to the Quran I believe. If the reasoning is that he did it for the wrong reasons, he doesn't believe in it how can he recite it, he recited it wrongly, I would still say, that's up to him.
Fact is, if you want to report against him, you must also do the same for the several hundreds in UIA that have used Quranic verses to pass tests and exams in Islamic classes. Ask Fong Po Kuan, she's from UIA. In fact ask Zambry. Also, those Chinese tombstone chiselers who carve out Quranic verses for a living without actually believing in whatever he's chiseling. That's just my negligible opinion though.
With regards to Nizar doing more for the Chinese and not doing anything to protect the Malays, I say that's a load of crap. From what I heard, the Malays were having a ball with Nizar as Chief Minister. It must also be remembered that he got that position even though DAP had more representatives in Perak. That I believe is courtesy. Nizar himself have reiterated (many times) how he approved 45 acres of land space for a religious school headmaster to be converted into a palm estate (BN let the application stale for 10 years).
Despite giving free land titles to predominantly Chinese territory, Nizar also gave free land titles to predominantly Malay territories which is larger. However, the mass media have been really pulling out all stops trying to convince voters otehrwise. No real facts are conveyed to the people and that is not fair.
Even though Najib has lifted the banning of Harakah and Suara Keadilan, that has come too late. Democracy have failed in the first place. They have the numbers, the resources, the people, the media and everything else at their mercy. But they still feel the need to take away the walking stick of a blind man in many ways. Permit is an issue, the police is an issue (apparently helping the BN members hang banners and siding with them during clashes), the ballot counting is an issue (in Batang Ai) and everything else makes it hard for the Pakatan Rakyat party. The only thing Pakatan Rakyat can rely on is wits and the people's support.
Vote for Pakatan in all the by-elections and teach BN a lesson or two.
